“We got a great-sounding project that fit our needs and our budget… Backthird cares about musicians and wants them to do the best they can.”
—Punchfight
Anyone can say they have a studio. You probably do some of your own recording, or know a friend who does some - and that's good. But when you bring your project to Backthird Audio, it won't be because we own some recording equipment. It'll be because we have what it takes to treat your music right.
Below are a few common studio services and ballpark cost of those services. Every artist's needs are different, so if you're serious about recording, you owe it to yourself to get an estimate or set up a meeting at the studio. That's the only way to know for sure what your project will cost.
Some common project services and costs:
Just the Room. Get our space - but no engineer or producer - so you can rehearse, shoot a video, or record on your own gear. But if you need this option more than once a month, studio membership almost pays for itself - and only studio members can use Backthird's recording gear. Cost: $150 per session.
Live Recording. Record the whole band at once, mixing and mastering on the fly. Simple instrumentation, clean sound, rough mix. Best for those who just want to “try out a real studio” and don’t mind a few performance mistakes. Sample cost to record, mix and master: Most bands can do 4-6 songs in a Single Visit session.
Studio Demo. More instruments, fuller sound, and a strong-but-simple mix. Best for those who want a “better than live” sound, but still want to cut corners and save money where it’s possible to do so. Sample cost to record, mix and master: $200/song.
Full production. A commercial sound, tightly edited with no performance mistakes. Polished, radio-quality mix. Best for those who want a product that’s as strong as possible, but still like to make efficient use of time and money. Sample cost to record, mix and master: $400/song.
Involved approach. Production quality like the sample above - but with additional help at the pre-production stage. If you're looking for a producer to spend time crafting songs and arrangements and getting you ready for the studio, you want this type of approach. Sample cost to record, mix and master: $600/song.
Arrangements and session players. Got songs and a voice, but need your producer to provide the rest? We can arrange and chart your songs, hire dynamite session players and deliver you a high-quality original recording of your vision. Sample cost to record, mix and master: $1200/song.
Note that the rates above are examples only. Every Backthird producer sets his or her own rates, and every Backthird production requires its own unique approach. For your own estimate, click here. For an exact proposal, request a meeting at the studio.
