DJ Andrew McGarvey
“This role is really about trust,” Andrew says. “I’m not only leading your party with music – I’m directing the flow of your whole reception. That may be why I love to DJ. It’s really about service.”
Andrew served as MC at a family member’s wedding years ago, and he was hooked. Since being certified with Backthird, he’s worked to develop his own style that’s mainly about playing the broadest variety of music that allows for the widest possible range of faces partying together on the dance floor. He has a personal weakness for pop music with a heavy dance beat – and for what he calls “guilty-pleasure songs that you’re not supposed to like, but find hilarious whenever they’re played.”
“I love taking your musical tastes and personalities,” Andrew says, “and figuring out how to turn those into sets of songs that will make guests want to stay on the dance floor all night long.”
Andrew works as a corporate procurement consultant during the week, and plays bass guitar at an area church most Sundays. He and his wife have two boys and a baby girl. “Part of what made us fall in love,” he says, “was my ability to dance in the car. When my jam plays on a road trip, I am unstoppable. And shameless.”
