The weddingest songs from the weddingest month. For wedding DJs in Chicago, there’s no busier month than October. That was especially true in 2016, when our performers found themselves contending with several theme weddings, a lot of 90s hip-hop – and one World Series.
Every Monday, I ask our DJs in Chicago a question: Which songs killed it on your wedding dance floors this weekend? Here’s how they answered for October 2016.
First, a few disclaimers:
- This list is totally NOT scientific. If you want to know which songs are stastically popular across the country, there are plenty of other places to look. There are just our DJs’ memories of what happened with one particular group of guests at one particular event over the last few weeks. And what happened was, those guests went crazy on the dance floor.
- It’s not just what you play; it’s also when you play it. Some of the songs below might be terrible with a different crowd – or even with the same crowd, played at a different time of night. That’s what makes DJs are better than jukeboxes: They’ve learned to take your requests, read your dance floor, and then put your music in the right context to create a dance party.
Here’s how we brought the party in October:
DJ TJ Medel
1. All I do is Win – DJ Khaled
DJ Kelvon Fluellen
1. Return of the Mack – Mark Morrison
2. Ignition – R Kelly
3. Back that Azz Up – Juvenile
DJ Stephen Vaughn
1. Cake by the Ocean – DNCE
2. Can’t Stop the Feeling – Justin Timberlake
3. I’m Too Sexy – Right Said Fred
DJ Stephanie Policarpio
1. Supermodel – Ru Paul
2. Love Shack – B-52s
3. Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough – Michael Jackson
DJ Andrew McGarvey
1. Toxic – Britney Spears
2. Ignition (Remix) – R Kelly
3. Yeah – Usher
DJ Keaton Michael
Keaton’s biggest dance floor explosion this month came from “Fire Burning” by Sean Kingston.
Your results may vary, but for this group of guests it had a personal connection and the dance floor just – well, you know. Caught on fire.
DJ Vince Gargaro
1. Shout – Isley Brothers
2. All My Loving – The Beatles
3. Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen
The set above was part of an all-oldies wedding, at which Vince played nothing but 50s, 60s and 70s music for 6 hours – and no disco. Further proof that with the right DJ, your wedding does NOT have to sound like everybody else’s.
